Happy New Year everyone!
We’re already a week into 2025, and the inevitable “New Year, New Me” conversation. So let’s talk resolutions. Do you make them? Do you keep them? I confess, I’m not a resolution person. Maybe because historically, I’ve struggled to keep them. Hey, you can’t fail if you don’t try, right? Yes, I know, not the healthiest attitude. So, what do we do instead? I’m learning there is a better way to approach self-improvement. Instead of grand resolutions I focus on setting achievable goals. For instance, instead of claiming I’m going to lose 50 pounds(a daunting task), maybe start with 5, and go from there. I believe small wins motivate us to keep going toward the big wins. Smaller bite-sized chunks feel less overwhelming making it easier to stay on track.
Here is my approach:
Focus on Habits Instead of the Outcome. Small daily changes are the real game changers. Want to eat healthier? Start by swapping one sugary drink for water. Want to be more active? Start with a 15 minute walk. These small steps add up. Instead of fixating on the finish line, concentrate on building sustainable habits that will get you there.
Celebrate the Victories, even the small ones. Rewarding yourself makes the journey more fun and reinforces positive behavior.
Stay Flexible and Have Grace for Yourself. Life happens, we all stumble. Dust yourself off, adjust the goal if necessary and keep moving forward. Progress, not perfection is the goal.
This isn’t just me giving advice, it’s a journey that I’m on myself. We are all a work in progress, striving to be better versions of ourselves. So, let’s ditch the pressure of resolutions and embrace the power of small steps. Keep going and good luck-we got this.
Wishing you all a happy and blessed 2025.
